For the first time in program history, the Saint Peter’s men’s soccer team have been snatching nothing but wins for almost a month straight.
The Peacocks extended their seven-game winning streak after beating the Niagara Purple Eagle 2-1 on Saturday in what was the squad’s final away match for the season. They return to the home turf -- where they’re 4-0 -- Wednesday against the Manhattan Jaspers at 2 p.m. at Jaroschak Field.
But as the team maintains their No. 1 spot in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, it doesn’t look like their road to the championship will be ending any time soon.
Junior forward Dominic Laws, who was recently MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, scored his 11th goal of the season -- with assist by midfielders Jordan Jowers and Jamie Davis -- against Niagara, leading both Saint Peter’s and the MAAC in total goals.
Jowers, who ranked third in MAAC in goals last season, notched his fifth goal against the Purple Eagles, which followed a cross by freshman midfielder Omar Seghiri.
The seventh straight win followed Wednesday’s 3-2 victory after an overtime rumble against the Marist Red Foxes. Laws sealed the game with two goals and Jowers with one.
"Back-to-back away wins is a decent week,” Head Coach Julien Richens told SPU Athletics in a statement. “The players will be looking forward to playing at Jaroschak Field again."
